The Data Entry Scam Part 2
On a previous post I talked about the nicer side of the “Data Entry Scams” and in that post I explained how these companies lured people into paying some sort fee in order to get access to a list of the so called employers looking to hire people for data entry positions. If you haven’t read that post you can read it by clicking here.
But let’s talk about the darkest side of this scam… The one that actually gets you to think that this is the real opportunity for you to start making money from home and enjoy financial freedom. I all starts when people search for a job in any of the major job search and employment sites like Yahoo Hotjobs, Monster.com, or any local newspaper’s job section.
You find a job post that says typists needed, ability to make 3,000 a week and you actually start thinking - Well if this is in the job section it must be a real job… so you go ahead and fill out the application, provide them with all your basic information, etc.
Within hours you receive an email responding to your job application, telling you that you’ve met their criteria and they’ll like to move forward with hiring process so you can start working as soon as possible. They offer to pay you anywhere from $10 to $100 per every form you fill out and you’ll be getting paid almost immediately… Sounds good doesn’t it.
At the end of the job description they start talking about the training materials, and these training materials will teach you everything you need to know in order to start making money right away. They also tell you that in the past they were sending the training materials to virtually anybody and people were not taking the program seriously and as a result they were wasting money and time. Because of this problem they are now charging a non-refundable fee that will cover the costs associated with the shipping and handling of the materials and it’s usually around $20.
Once you’ve paid the fee the materials will be sent to you via email… (Awkward huh, specially when they told you the fee was to cover the shipping and handling) When and if you get the materials you’ll see that the job is nothing more than sending unsolicited email (AKA Spamming, by the way spamming is considered illegal) to unsuspecting people along with an application for employment, review the application and send the a letter saying that their employment has been approved. I would then get half the money if that person pays for the same training materials you just paid for, the other half goes to the person who recruited me.
And that’s the second version of the data entry scam, they simply teach you how to send unsolicited emails to people you don’t even know hoping somebody purchases the training materials and you make money.
Conclusion: Real data entry positions do not require you to pay any money to start working but they actually require you to type at least 60 words per minute. In my opinion data entry jobs aren’t the best approach you can take when looking to make money from home and in the event that you find a real data entry job you’ll see that the pay isn’t that great.
