How To Create Your Own Website From Scratch. (Easier Than You Think)
Having your own website is one of the most important steps you need to take if you plan on developing an extremely profitable online business. And specially with the low cost of having a website and how easy it is to create, there should be no excuse for not having one.
While you can still make a decent income by having a free hosted blog or free pages in social media sites, having your own website allows you grow your business 10 times bigger than any other free service offered online and this is why:
- Gives you exclusivity - Having your own domain name will make you exclusive and you’ll own a piece of the internet. You’ll also be able to build name and recognition for your business. Do you think fortune 500 companies operate off a free site? Nope and neither should you.
- Adds credibility - Unlike most free sites that you find everywhere your own website projects a professional image of you and your business. Makes people less skeptical when doing business with you.
- Flexibility - You’re in total control of everything. You decide how your site is going to look, the amount of pages you want to have, whether you want to have a blog or a sales page having your own website will allow you that.
In order to create your own site you’ll need three basic things:
- A domain name = $9.99 a year
- Web hosting service = $3 - $5 a month
- FTP Software = A free trial I know about will do the trick
A domain name is your .address. in the World Wide Web, and along with your website, it serves as your online identity reflecting your purpose and personality. Anyone in the world with internet access can type your domain name into their web browser and visit your website.
When choosing one simply think of words related to your niche or topic. Once you’ve decided which name you’re going to use, go to Godaddy.com and type in the name where it says “Domain Name Search” and click on the go button. One word domain names are usually hard to find so I suggest you to use two and three word domain names. Also make sure that you choose the dot com version rather than the dot biz, dot info or any of the other dots.
Once you’ve found an available domain name go ahead and purchase it for one year.
The next step is web hosting. Web hosting is what makes your website accessible to anyone in the world with internet access. Without this service nobody would be able to access your website. There are tons of web hosting companies out there but when it comes to business it is imperative that you use a reliable web hosting service.
I personally use Ixwebhosting.com for a couple of reasons, they provide excellent phone support 24 hours a day and my site is never down. Now what you’ll need to do is to go to Ixwebhosting.com and click where it says “Experienced Webmaster” and choose the expert plan which is the cheapest one and will provide you with more than what you need.
On the next page where it says “Already Have Your Own Domain” go ahead and type in your domain name and click on continue. On the next page you’ll need to choose a plan which I suggest you to take the one year option, fill out the rest of the blanks and the end of the page it’ll ask you for an FTP username. Simply choose anything that you can remember since you’ll be able to change it later, when you’re done click on submit your order.
They’ll contact you within minutes with your account information. Believe it or not we are just a few steps away from having your website live. I told you it was going to be easy.
Now let’s talk about the last thing you need to get in order to have your site up and running, the FTP software. This is the software you’ll need to transfer your website files into your webhosting service so people across the world can start seeing your website live.
This step is fairly easy all you need to do is to go to Globalscape.com and download the free trial by clicking on the try now button under CuteFTP Home.
ATTENTION: If you own a Mac computer make sure you download the mac free version.
